This is Day 8 in my song of that Day series – 4 days late but here none the less. Today’s song is Neil Diamond – I’m a believer. If I’m honest I didn’t know who sang this song when I looked it up I thought it was the Beatles. That makes more sense you realise that the Monkees recorded it originally and everyone knows they sound very similar.
It was released in 1967 and got to number 1 in the UK charts and around the world in many countries. It is just such an upbeat happy song I love it.
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That’s the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all of my dreams
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
I’m in love, and I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her if I tried
No not if I tried
I thought love was more or less a giving thing
Seems the more I gave the less I got
What’s the use in tryin’
All you get is pain
When I needed sunshine I got rain
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
I’m in love and I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her if I tried
Not if I tried
Love was out to get me
That’s the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all of my dreams
What’s the use of trying
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine I got rain
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
I’m in love and I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her if I tried
No not if I tried
Not if I tried, no
‘Cause I’m a believer
Yes I’m a believer
