Supplies Every Metal Caster Should Have

Do you love the art of casting metal and making whatever your heart desires? Perhaps you love to create jewellery, weapons, or sculptures. Whatever you want to cast, you want to ensure that you have all of the supplies you need to make sure that you’re safe and that your end product comes out just as you had hoped.

Safety Equipment

Molten metal can easily reach upwards of 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of that, you never want to handle the liquid metal without your safety gear on. In addition to gloves, you’ll also want arm protectors to keep you safe from excessive heat and splashing metal. You’ll also need body protection, which can either be a heavy apron or a bodysuit. Furthermore, you can’t forget to protect your eyes and lungs. By wearing a full-face respirator or separate eye protection and a smaller breathing apparatus, you can do that.

Melting Equipment

You can’t build a proper metal caster workshop without a way to get the metal into a molten state. Melting your metal is done by using a foundry or using a torch. A torch will be good for cutting through metal and softening it so that you can cut the metal into different shapes.

However, if you’re looking to use forms or moulds, you’ll do best with a foundry. You can ensure that you’re buying the right one for your needs by talking to the experts at a foundry supplies store.

Molds

Unless you prefer to hand pull and design your metal creations, you will want to have a variety of molds on hand. With a mold, you can have literally any design you can think of. If you use metals with a low melting point, you’ll be fine to use silicone molds. However, if you use higher melting point metals, you’ll want to use either sand or metal molds.
