Poem: A Vianelle

As it turns out, I have already shared this type of poem here on SkyPip, but the poem is written, so…

A Vianelle is a nineteen line poem with five tercets (three line stanzas) and one quatrain (four line stanza).  The first and third lines of the first stanza repeat as  the last lines of the next four tercets.  In the quatrain, the first line of the first stanza is the third line, and the third line of the first stanza is the last line of of the quatrain.  The most recent Vianelle that I have written is below.  Note the placements throughout the poem of the first and third lines of the first stanza.

The rhymes also remain the same throughout the poem.

Oh, my gracious Lord and my dearest friend

I wish to come ever closer to You

You, with no beginning and with no end.

*

To do what You please is what I intend

Though I am but feeble human, it’s true

Oh, my gracious Lord and dearest Friend.

*

The solid Rock, He will not bend

Regardless what the winds and storms may do.

You, with no beginning and no end.

*

With no other thing did I need to blend

When from Your fountain pure water I drew

Oh, my gracious Lord and dearest Friend.

*

Still man with You truth chooses to contend

Drowning in their own  “lie and story” stew;

You, with no beginning and no end.

*

When for His children the Father does send

We’ll praise You forever beyond the blue

Oh, my gracious Lord and dearest Friend

You with no beginning and no end.

…and there is another Vianelle. 🙂  Maybe my explanation of the form was a little better this time, who knows. 🙂  Next time I will try to dig up a poetry from that I have not introduced here, yet.
