Whether you are an owner-operator, a fleet owner or frequently drive fuel efficiency is always a priority. Generally, the larger the vehicle and engine, the more you consume fuel. One way to maximize your truck’s fuel usage is to drive a diesel vehicle. Having an economical vehicle will save you both time and money.
Great Gas Mileage
One of the most popular reasons for driving a diesel truck is the gas mileage. When comparing the same vehicle and engine, diesel engines get 20 to 30 percent more mileage than their gasoline counterparts. If you couple this with a modern diesel Fuel Air Separation System or FASS fuel systems, you will see an increase in gas mileage for city and highway driving.
Longer Lasting
Since diesel engines are built to withstand the higher compression that the fuel requires, they tend to last a lot longer than gas-powered engines. It is not unusual for a diesel engine to last years, even decades longer than its counterpart.
More Low-End Torque
Diesel fuel provides 10 to 15 percent more low-end torque than gasoline. This additional torque contributes to overall gas mileage and savings. This also makes them much faster when going from standing to starting.
No Need for Tune-Ups
A diesel engine does not need regular tune-ups like a gasoline engine. They do not have sparkplugs or distributors. You will still need to perform engine maintenance like changing filters and oil changes. These services are not nearly as expensive as a full tune-up on a gasoline-powered vehicle.
Less Expensive in the Long-Term
Although diesel retails at a higher price per gallon than unleaded gasoline, over time, a diesel engine saves you money by burning with less waste.
Depending on your needs, diesel is the way to go if you want a vehicle that lasts longer, is more fuel-efficient, has more power and requires less maintenance than gasoline-powered engines. This is particularly true if you have a fleet, semi or do a lot of over-the-road driving.
